Rob Richards Checks in Six Years Since Gastric Bypass

July 20, 2017

Rob Richards had a weight issue several years ago.

Out of love for his family, he had gastric bypass.

He checks in, six years later posting this message on Dr. Adeyeri’s Facebook timeline:

“So about 7 years ago I was at my heaviest, too worried if an inflatable slide could hold me, or too concerned if people were watching me to go on it with my 3 yr old son.

Six years ago, I had my life changing gastric bypass surgery, which gave me not only a new lease on life, but a new outlook as well.

Fast forward to today, where neither my weight, nor my self-consciousness, will ever stop me again.

Today I went on a ziplining adventure with that same son, now almost 10. Being able to watch him enjoy, and to do it with him, to keep up, and do something that I’ve always wanted to do is all I could ever ask for.

I’m not a watcher anymore, I’m a doer.

I not only want to help him make memories, I want to make them with him, and now I do.

From ziplining to the slingshot, biking with my 5 year old daughter, roller coasters to soaring over Great Adventure in a harness, I’m not trapped in, or by my body any longer.

Dr. Adeyeri, thank you for helping me help myself be the person, the husband and father I’ve always wanted to be, active, healthy, and able!”

 What is Gastric Bypass?

Gastric BypassA large portion of the stomach is closed off. This leaves a small pouch to hold food, restricting the amount that can be eaten at one time. The small intestine is cut below the duodenum and reattached to the new stomach pouch, leaving a shortened path for food to travel through.

This procedure is performed laparoscopically. Most patients are able to leave the hospital two days after surgery and are able to resume normal activities by the time they come home.
